You should still be able to access your BIOS by pressing F10 continuously once your turn on the computer. Also, you need to change the booting sequence in your BIOS from hard drive to CD-drive so you can boot the computer from the CD drive where the Windows installer is inserted.

Go to http://h20000.www2.hp.com/.. it will show you how to get to your BIOS. Once you are there, just go to the Advanced tab and look for HDD. You should see different options there and one of which should be Compatibility Mode or Non-AHCI Mode. Hope that helps.

This new drive - is it a secondary drive? If you have connected a new drive to a cable with an existing drive you will need to change the jumper block to 'slave' on the new drive.
Good Luck

Um no its just by itself.. but I have connected all the cords and ide cables.. but I believe it is because I put a IDE hard drive in when the last one was a SATA and it was only a 40GB so would I have to upgrade it?

If your Presario is like mine F10 right after you turn on the computer will start in the BIOS screen. You then use the arrow key to move from Main to Boot. You then use the arrow key to select the CD drive then you use the + key to move the CD drive to the top of the list. F10 will then save your changes to the BIOS it will then Boot from the CD drive (where you have put the Windows install CD). Please note that after you have installed Windows you will want to move the 1st boot drive to be the hard drive.
Good Luck

Make sure to enable the Compatibility Mode or Non-AHCI Mode on your BIOS to get this to work. Make sure that you also have the original Windows Vista disk in your drive so you can format your new hard drive.

You may need to change the boot order in the BIOS - so that the drive is listed first.
Does the drive show in the BIOS?
I assume you have a copy of windows on this drive. If it came from another computer it may NOT boot correctly on the computer. If you are attempting to install a copy of windows the BIOS will need to be changed to first boot from the CD drive.
Good Luck
